“Before rebranding , we had a generic name that was not brand-able to our clients,” said Iskandar Suhaimi, founder of the JomJalan Inc. “The purpose of this new name is to make it easier for our clients to identify us as a Malaysian based travel guide provider, regardless of where they come from. This also allows us to propel the growth further with better name and market recognition.”
With the rebranding scheme, the new Malay based site of the Kuala Lumpur guide was also unveiled. It aims to target the growing local market.
“The local Malaysian market has been largely ignored. Big travel brands that try to cater the needs of this market seem to alienate the Malay speaking population or confuse them with site with Indonesian dialects and style. We aim to change that,” he added.
This change of brand is also a long term strategy to reduce the company’s reliance on search engine rankings fluctuations. The JomJalan brand name will be in use starting from November 1st 2011 and is the rebranding phase is expected to be completed by January 2013.
