Hurricane Sandy Likely to Cost East Coast Billions in Insured Losses

Policyholder insurance claim attorney Bill Voss discusses the damage done by Hurricane Sandy and what business owners should do in the storm’s aftermath.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Nov. 1, 2012 - THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS – There were blue skies over parts of the East Coast today, and millions of residents and business owners emerged blinking from their shelters to find that the devastating winds and torrential rains that Hurricane Sandy brought with it were finally gone. However, the real catastrophe of Hurricane Sandy is far from over: forecasting companies like AIR Worldwide and Eqecat are already predicting that the storm will cost $5 billion to $15 billion in insured losses and $10 billion to $20 billion in economic losses. Bill Voss thinks the true number could eclipse $50 billion when things are said and done.

Insurance companies are now expecting a different flood; a flood of damage claims from property and business owners from states along the entire eastern seaboard, including Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Vermont. Insurers will likely feel the stress and financial pressure of processing a large numbers of claims. These issues can sometimes lead to inaccurate outcomes, wrongful denials, inappropriate delays, and other issues.

At the same time, businesses and schools will struggle to clean up, repair, and begin operating again as soon as possible. Unfortunately, this can be a difficult or even impossible task without funds, support, and guidance.

“It is equally important to take action after a storm like this as it is to prepare your property for the storm in the first place,” said insurance claim attorney Bill Voss. “Although it can feel overwhelming to think about your commercial insurance claim now, being proactive can help ensure that your company emerges from the wake of Hurricane Sandy in the best way possible and that you are returned to business as usual as quickly as possible.”

Business owners with damaged property are encouraged to review their insurance policies, document any damage done, and keep close track of losses, costs, and repairs. Getting the assistance of an experienced policyholder insurance claim law firm may make this process much easier.

“At The Voss Law Firm, we are committed to help natural disaster victims avoid a second calamity: an unfair settlement, a denied claim, a delayed claim, or a reduced claim,” said Voss. “It is our hope that all those affected by Hurricane Sandy take the right steps to successfully file and justly settle their insurance claims.”
