Oct. 31, 2012 - PRLog -- No New Yorker will ever forget the impact of that Hurricane Sandy has had on our city and the country, as over eighteen states are recovering from its devastation while the Midwest is bracing for its arrival. As many are beginning to return to work while the city rebuilds, healing and recovery for those who are in shelters and are displaced is imminent. Although nothing can replace the comfort of a warm bed in your own home, a cup of tea can help begin the healing process and sooth one’s soul.

CuriosiTeas NYC Owner, Sheena Foster, a native of New Orleans, LA who was displaced seven years ago after Hurricane Katrina pummeled her hometown is organizing a grassroots effort to help bring comfort and healing through serving hot cups of tea to evacuees in New York City Shelters.

If you are interested in volunteering your time and/or donating resources such as disposable tea cups, spoons, tea, sweeteners, milk, and hot water equipment to a local evacuation shelter in the New York City and Long Island, please fill out the online form linked to http://teaforhumanity.org  and you will receive directions on how to proceed.

Tea for Humanity™ is also seeking short term volunteer Site Captains who can volunteer a shift to help greet volunteers, help take donations on site and manage the volunteers who will be serving tea as well as volunteer Logistics/Operations Assistants to help manage the process.

Businesses who would like to donate supplies, products, or services for the “Tea for Humanity” project can contact Sheena directly at info@teaforhumanity.org (mailto:sheena@curiositeasnyc.com), as this is a grassroots effort and nothing will be turned down.

If you are interested in organizing a CuriosiTeas NYC Tea for Humanity™ event at your local church, community center or wherever you can find and warm place to comfort those in need, please e-mail info@teaforhumanity.org (mailto:sheena@curiosiTeasnyc.com)

Sheena had originally planned to spend her weekend volunteering and attending the Coffee and Tea Festival on November 3rd and 4th in Atlantic City, NJ, which was also devastated by Sandy.  Having faced what New Yorkers are facing now seven years ago when she and twelve of her family members fled New Orleans and occupied a single hotel room in Baton Rouge, LA, she has deep compassion for those who are experiencing loss and was thinking of ways to having a meaningful social impact in addition to recovery work.

Sheena is no stranger to giving back as she has done multiple volunteer projects with New York Cares and Habitat for Humanity her hometown New Orleans post Katrina and in NYC. Having been inspired by a cultural encounter over tea with villagers on a Habitat for Humanity Global Village build in Delhi, India in 2011, Foster launched CuriosiTeas NYC as a modest Harlem Based specialty tea company only eight months ago. More passionate about tea education than blending tea, she changed her business model to provide high quality cultural tea education programs with clients that the New York Public Library and the NYC Dept of Education and occasionally blends tea.

Sheena will be re-branding and re-launching as a non-profit called the Urban Tea Academy in early 2013 and recently received a full page feature in Jet Magazine’s September 3rd issue for her efforts. Sheena is eager for an opportunity to give back to a city that has poured so much into her through organizing this “Tea for Humanity” effort.
