Having faced what New Yorkers are facing now seven years ago when she and twelve of her family members fled New Orleans and occupied a single hotel room in Baton Rouge, LA, she has deep compassion for those who are experiencing loss and was thinking of ways to having a meaningful social impact in addition to recovery work. Sheena is no stranger to giving back as she has done multiple volunteer projects with New York Cares and Habitat for Humanity her hometown New Orleans post Katrina and in NYC. Having been inspired by a cultural encounter over tea with villagers on a Habitat for Humanity Global Village build in Delhi, India in 2011, Foster launched CuriosiTeas NYC as a modest Harlem Based specialty tea company only eight months ago. More passionate about tea education than blending tea, she changed her business model to provide high quality cultural tea education programs with clients that the New York Public Library and the NYC Dept of Education and occasionally blends tea. Sheena will be re-branding and re-launching as a non-profit called the Urban Tea Academy in early 2013 and recently received a full page feature in Jet Magazine’s September 3rd issue for her efforts. Sheena is eager for an opportunity to give back to a city that has poured so much into her through organizing this “Tea for Humanity” effort. End
