PRLog - Oct. 31, 2012 - MISSISSAUGA, Ontario -- The RFA - 680 is used for manufacturing both small and large rollers using polyurethane. A ribbon of liquid urethane is applied to a rotating roller and moved across the cylindrical surface.
Ribbon Cast Polyurethane System for Roller Manufacturing
The method is somewhat similar to turning, but the material is applied instead of being removed. It is possible to build layers to different thicknesses for subsequent machining to accurate dimensions. Properly handled, the material will not drip or sag while being applied.
The RFA-680 Ribbon Cast system was specifically developed to fill the need for faster production of high quality rollers by eliminating the necessity to pre-heat the urethane system components prior to use. The process is suitable for manufacturing both small rollers and large parts requiring up to several hundred kilograms of urethane.
Due to its speed of reaction, the product is best suited to applications employing automated dispense systems.
In this process, the Ribbon Cast material is pumped through a metering machine through a traversing mix head that deposits the mixed product onto a rotating steel shaft. Depending on the required thickness, one or more passes might be required to obtain the correct build. Once applied, the polyurethane will achieve a final cure at room temperature.
The application of Crosslink’s RFA-680 Ribbon Cast polyurethane has the following advantages when compared with the conventional hot mould casting of industrial rollers:
• There are no moulds required
• The use of an oven is optional
• Less scrap resulting from trapped air bubbles
• Overbuild waste is greatly reduced
• Considerably less labour required
• Short turn-around time
• Lower production costs
According to Mr. Dipak Parekh, Business Development Manager, Global Markets, “The RFA-680 Ribbon Cast System represents a significant advancement in materials for manufacturing polyurethane rollers. This new product is a great complement to our CLV 1V-019 Variable Hardness polyurethane system being sold under our Triathane® trade name.”
Crosslink Technology Inc. was established in 1981 and is a prominent formulator and supplier of customized epoxy and polyurethane products to a number of major manufacturers. The Company is known for its unique products and excellent customer support.
