Featuring a wide range of courses to accommodate bicyclists of all skills levels, the We Promise Foundation Century Bike Tour offered participants the chance to choose between a classic century (100 miles), a 50-mile course or a 33-mile ride. All three-ride distances started and finished at Greenbrier Farms in Chesapeake, Va., where riders were sent-off and welcomed back by the event’s special guests: children whose dreams will be granted thanks to the cyclist’s fundraising efforts.
Several of the area’s largest cycling companies and businesses sponsored the charitable event. Event sponsors included Fat Frogs of Chesapeake, Bike Beat, Chartway Federal Credit Union, WAVY-TV 10, Virginia Beach Printing, Fluidity Integrative Therapy, Premier Events and radio station 105.3. In addition, Just Cupcakes, Panchero’s Mexican Grill and Chick-Fil-A refueled the riders before, during and after the race.
Describing the success of the event and the impact it will have on the lives of local children, We Promise Foundation Chairman, John Blum praised the contributions of its participants. “We are indescribably grateful to our sponsors and riders for clipping in and strapping on their helmets for this endurance challenge. It is an honor to work together to fulfill a common goal – to deliver hope and happiness to courageous children by fulfilling their one dream.”
Since Chartway Federal Credit Union’s charitable arm first began raising money to provide moments of magic to children battling life-threatening illnesses and severe hardship, they have successfully raised more than $4.5 million.
