Oct. 31, 2012 - PRLog -- Well, it’s official – coaching has finally arrived with the inclusion of the definition of “life coach” in the Merriam-Webster online dictionary! There is some strong disagreement with one of the words used in the definition, and you may want to add your opinion to the online debate so I’ve included the link for your convenience. However, the inclusion of this term in the Merriam-Webster dictionary is due to the fact that the term has become more and more commonly used, a acknowledged “buzz” word or phrase and the publishers have recognised the need to include this term in order to accurately reflect the shift in the English language.

Isn’t it interesting that – as coaches or mentors – we work to shift our client’s perceptions and viewpoints, and in the meta-world, there is this shift in language taking place – a shift in how we are able to articulate those perceptions and points of view.

This edition is a bumper edition, with a range of fascinating articles that I would like to draw your attention to as I believe that they will open your eyes to new models, methodologies and practices. Please make sure to read Roger Maitland’s article on Personal Construct Psychology as it might inspire you to explore this psychological model. Dorrian Aiken gives us a brief, but fascinating insight into multiple intelligences and their impact on our ability to function at executive level in the workplace. Desiree Daniels has generously shared the outcomes of her thesis on the use of coaching to transfer knowledge back into the workplace, with specific focus on non-profit organisations.

We also have an article from Dale Williams on the global shift into the use of technology such as the telephone and Skype in both learning interventions and coaching, and his observations on this phenomenon. I loved Axel Ritterhaus’ clever analogy for coaching in his article and encourage all of you to read it – it may make explaining what you do so much easier in future. We always welcome articles from Michelle Clarke and Belinda Davies, leaders in our coaching community, who write thought-provokingly and share their practice with us. Pat Roberts’ article is particularly valuable to be able to forward to potential clients when they are making their choice about who to work with – just make sure that you tick all the boxes!
