Healing the Culture says that pro-life ethics should guide choices on November 6

SEATTLE, OCT. 31, 2012 – With multiple campaign issues to consider heading into the November 6 elections, it’s easy to lose sight of what’s most important. But one group is reminding voters that life is the biggest issue of all.

“We urge everyone to Vote Life on November 6,” said Camille Pauley, co-founder and president of Healing the Culture. “It doesn’t matter whether you’re focused on the economy, national defense, foreign policy, social issues, or something else. Every issue is important only if we believe in the sacred dignity and value of human life itself.”

Pauley founded Healing the Culture with former Gonzaga University President Fr. Robert Spitzer, S.J., Ph.D., to help people respect and defend human life. The organization seeks to build a culture that is fully pro-life by teaching a consistent philosophy of happiness, quality of life, love freedom, and human rights.

“It’s important to have a healthy economy and a strong national defense,” Pauley added, “but if a candidate is, at the same time, advocating a position that supports abortion or euthanasia, that person has abandoned his or her primary duty to protect human life, and has forgotten the fundamental reason why we need a healthy economy and a strong national defense in the first place.”

Healing the Culture is an educational organization and does not engage in political activities or the endorsement of particular candidates. But it believes that education that forms consciences well is essential for voters to carry out their democratic duty on Election Day.

“Voters must consider where candidates stand on the pro-life issues,” said Pauley. “Any candidate who would advocate killing innocent unborn members of our own society, or who supports physician-assisted suicide as a legal option for those who are terminally ill, has lost the essential principles that are necessary to govern with justice and compassion.”

Pauley was referring to principles such as inalienable rights, the intrinsic dignity of all human persons, and our duty to “do no harm.” “These are the principles that ground the very foundation of our democratic society,” she said. “So it’s not only gravely unjust, but also contradictory for voters to ignore these principles in favor of a candidate who may have good economic policies, but supports the direct destruction of human life.”

As part of its educational work, Healing the Culture has just released a new national pro-life curriculum for high school students, PRINCIPLES AND CHOICES. The curriculum takes the ten greatest principles of ethics, logic, and justice, and shows how Roe v. Wade and legal euthanasia violate every one of them. “Without these principles,” Pauley noted, “civilization collapses. It’s vital that we teach young people how to think critically about campaign issues by educating them in the essential principles that uphold the dignity of human life.”

PRINCIPLES AND CHOICES is available for purchase now at www.HealingTheCulture.com.
