Young Filmmaker Khurrum M. Sultan Finds Success in International Festival Circuit

Oct. 30, 2012 - PRLog -- The Academy Award accredited Chicago International Children’s Film Festival recently announced their line up for 2012, naming “My Friend Ehran,” the short film by Khurrum M. Sultan, as an official selection.

The film, which follows two orphans on an adventure through the Turkish wilderness as they search for their lost goat, was also selected by the United Kingdom’s Cornwall Film Festival under the category “Films Without Borders.”

But the success of Sultan’s short film marks another milestone for the young filmmaker. Sultan was among a select few who graduated from the London Film School this year.

Sultan’s career as a student filmmaker boasts numerous awards and accolades, including six festival wins and nine total acceptances for his acclaimed 2009 feature length drama “Insha’Allah,” which follows a family caught in the complex cross hairs of human trafficking.  

In addition, the 2011 Cannes Short Film Corner named Sultan’s short film, “Five” an official selection.

Sultan’s documentary about the adverse affects of terrorism entitled “Hear Our Voices” screened at the Global Counter-Terrorism Forum in New York to  an audience of foreign diplomats this past year. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton applauded the piece as “a very moving documentary.”          

With such a firm grasp on volatile, worldwide issues, and a keen eye for portraying the human condition in a way that spans borders and language barriers, Khurrum M. Sultan is a new, definitive voice of this generation and a filmmaker to watch for in the months to come.
