PRLog (Press Release) - Oct. 30, 2012 - As a young girl, the author fled the Congo with her family following a coup d’état. But what does politics mean to a child? All she understood at the time was that she would have to leave her beloved home behind for many long years.

When Mwamini finally returned to the Democratic Republic of Congo, she saw that many Congolese were still suffering, even though the conflict was officially over. In an effort to help her people and rebuild her country, she earned a master’s degree from George Mason University in conflict analysis and resolution.

The author’s research for this book took her to remote areas where she met with rape victims and child soldiers. The Untold Story of the Women and Children of the Democratic Republic of the Congo begins in 1994 during the genocide in Rwanda, since many victims of the Congo wars are long-term victims of genocide. Mwamini relates her journeys, while offering hope for a whole generation of Congolese women and children.
