Oct. 30, 2012 - PRLog -- Broken Publications has a number of goals, initiatives, and projects underway that are slow-going at best with financial support coming solely from one single mother's freelance editing and writing endeavors. This press release is to give you an idea about what could really be happening should this IndieGoGo campaign reach its goal of just $5,000, a relatively small amount of money compared to what most businesses need to expand.

So, what exactly happens behind the scenes for Broken Publications? Submissions must be reviewed and accepted or rejected. Once that part is complete, the manuscript must first be edited. A minimum of two passes are made for editing a single manuscript. Depending on its length, this could mean about 30 hours of editing time alone.

Once editing is finished, the document must be formatted for print and the Table of Contents, copyright page, page numbers, and other elements should be added. After that, the spine width is calculated and the book cover is designed and finalized for print while the author takes another look at the book's interior file. Once these are finished, the book files are uploaded to CreateSpace and submitted for approval. Once approved, the proof is ordered - in PDF or print forms, the print version's cost being covered by the publisher. Once the proof is approved by the author, the book is published and expanded distribution purchased, also at the expense of the publisher.

Then the eBook process begins. The original source file is converted to html and cleaned up, formatted, and perfected in DreamWeaver. Quality testing takes place: conversion and html coding until the book appears perfect in the Kindle eReader. Once complete, the book is then published through Kindle Direct Publishing and, if requested by the author, on PubIt! for the Nook.

Total hours spent on just getting the book ready for publication? Between 30 and 70 hours. Most people, even writers, don't realize all of the work that goes into publishing a quality book. Please note... if cover art is provided by a cover artist or photographer, their time creating the appropriate piece for the book's cover is not included in this time estimate. Now add at least 20-40 hours a week of freelance work to pay the bills and three kids and you'll have an idea of why Broken Publications is turning to IndieGoGo to raise funding.

The ideas don't cost a thing and the work itself is a passion, but outsourcing even two or three tasks would slingshot the company forward toward its amazingly bright future!

Each year, more projects and programs will begin to take shape as scholarship funds, domestic violence prevention initiatives, and quality literary publications are developed and executed.

To show your support for domestic violence survivors (owner Jen Johnson being one) and victims, help Broken Publications lunge instead of baby-step into its future, and create freelance projects for other home workers in the US, stop by the IndieGoGo campaign page to read about some of the plans, perks, and goals this company is involved in. The future is bright! Help Broken Publications get there just a little bit faster.
