Oct. 30, 2012 - PRLog -- ScottMadden, Inc., one of North America’s leading energy consulting firms, recently sponsored the fourth annual Transmission Summit West held October 22–24, 2012. This event brought together leaders from across the utility industry to discuss key trends and recent policy decisions that continue to have a profound influence on our nation’s electric transmission grid.

This event provided the opportunity for utilities, merchant transmission companies, regulators, and others involved in transmission build out to share their experiences and collaborate on ideas for enhancing and expanding the electric grid.

Cristin Lyons (http://www.scottmadden.com/bios/25/Cristin-Lyons.html), partner and transmission, distribution, and Smart Grid practice leader at ScottMadden, served as the event’s executive forum chair. In her opening remarks, Ms. Lyons highlighted the close linkages between the transmission build out, developments in generation and distribution, and how quickly these areas are changing today. “What happens in generation and distribution matters here,” says Ms. Lyons. “And there is a lot going on in generation and distribution.”

Todd Williams (http://www.scottmadden.com/bios/49/Todd-Williams.html), partner at ScottMadden, presented “Supply Trends – What Are the Impacts on Transmission?” This presentation focused on how natural gas prices, carbon legislation, and renewable generation sources will drive the need for transmission infrastructure investment. “The future of our generation mix will have a significant impact on the need for transmission infrastructure, and developers need to factor these trends into long-term plans,” notes Mr. Williams.
