Metform’s Custom Tooling Design Offers Unique Decking Solutions

PRLog (Press Release) - Oct. 29, 2012 - Metform is a leader in custom roll tool design with over 40 years of experience and over 700 sets of tooling built globally.  Recently, the company was faced with a tooling design project for a composite deck profile which presented them with several unique development challenges.  Some of the existing issues tested the limits of tool design which include minimizing the air forming inherent in the profile.   The design team worked together to develop creative concepts to produce a multiple series of side rolls.   This also required extensive development in side roll fixtures.  Another challenge that needed to be integrated into the system was to create a repeatable datum set-up scheme for the side rolls and allow for user friendly operating features.

“To prevent the need from separate tooling sets, we designed a side roll unit which allows hook-to-lap profiles in a single set of tooling with quick changeover features between the two profiles,” stated Mark Volkmann, Metform President.  “These detailed specific profiles required innovative forming methods which is relatively new to the industry.  Years of established tooling expertise and design methodologies is what our customers have come to rely on at Metform.”
