A New Kind Of Wedding | Couple Asks Guests to Donate To Charity in Place Of Gift Giving

PRLog (Press Release) - Oct. 28, 2012 - All of the normal planning that goes into a wedding had been done; the painstakingly difficult choice of a wedding dress, venue, flowers, catering, selecting a good Chicago wedding band, the selection of groomsmen and bridesmaids, invitations, hair, makeup, and wine selection were in place. Union Station was set and ready as the guests piled in, dressed to the nines to watch their beloved friends unite in marriage. A passerby could already see this was no ordinary wedding, but they could not have known about the inspiration taking place.

The couple, which has chosen to remain anonymous, had always shared similar passions for charity and generosity. They viewed their wedding as an opportunity to amplify that passion by converting the traditional wedding gift into a platform for guests to donate instead to charity. Guests were given suggested charities, but also were able to donate to their charity of choice.

“So much money goes into weddings these days,” stated the groom, “We didn’t particularly have a need for money or gifts. We would rather see it go to those who do.”

The wedding was a hit to all who attended. Thousands of dollars were donated to various organizations all around the world helping families, foundations, and causes close to everyone’s heart. Even their wedding band, Chicago based Orchestra 33, made a donation of over $1200.00 from their proceeds to their charity of choice, The Peter Wake Trust.

“The evening was a motivating experience,” says Orchestra 33 leader, Dave Farley, “We’ve performed as both a wedding band and a corporate band in Chicago for many years, and have played hundreds of charities and galas on the corporate side, but never before at a wedding.”
Combining the celebration of marriage with the joy of giving resulted in a couple who could not have been more thrilled with the night’s outcome.
