Kitchener Heavyweight fighter and film actor Art Binkowski makes his boxing return
KITCHENER, ONTARIO, 27 OCTOBER 2012– Making his big comeback on Saturday, November 3 is Kitchener heavyweight boxer Art “Cinderella Man” Binkowski, who will take part in a six-round special feature bout as part of the “Return of the Gladiators” event, presented by Boxing by Syd Vanderpool.
Binkowski, who competed in the 2000 Sydney Olympics and played boxer John 'Corn' Griffin in the Oscar-nominated movie "Cinderella Man," is stepping back into the ring for the first time in over five years. Syd Vanderpool, himself a former world-recognized boxing champ, is excited to see someone he calls “a real life Cindarella Man” making his return as part of the November event. Binkowski’s last fight was in 2007. Sporting and impressive 16-2 record he will be facing Jonte Willis 8-4 from Seattle Washington. “ What an amazing opportunity for Art and his fight fans to be a part of bringing professional boxing back to Kitchener,”.adds Vanderpool.
“Return of the Gladiators” happens at Marshall Hall (425 Bingeman’s Centre Drive, Kitchener) on Saturday, November 3, 2012. Doors open at 7:00pm, with the first bout scheduled for 8:00pm. Weigh-in for the fighters is scheduled for the same day at 10:00am at Victoria Star Motors, Mercedes-Benz Kitchener (125 Centennial Road). In addition to the evening’s matches, four finalists will compete for the Boxing by Syd Vanderpool Ring Card Model of the Year title, with the winner taking home a pair of diamond earrings valued at $600, provided by Robins Goldsmithing. Tickets for “Return of the Gladiators” range from $25 to $60, and ringside tables are available for groups.
