Oct. 26, 2012 - PRLog -- To meet David Prince you would not know you were in the presence of one of the most successful multicultural executives in the advertising industry. And that is just the way he likes it.  As the Queens, New York native embarks on a career as a full-time Multicultural Social Media Consultant, he is much more comfortable with a keyboard than in a boardroom.

David Prince starts every morning by logging onto his laptop, checking to see if any of his Clients received tweets or Facebook updates that need to be addressed. It makes no difference that he just checked five to six hours before. Such is the life of someone who personally manages the multicultural social media communities of all of his Clients.  The 22 year advertising vet, obviously did not start his professional career in Social Media.  But he did start it, Multicultural. David Prince is of Hispanic and African American descent. In 1989 he started his first job at IPG's Lintas: New York. This made him somewhat unique for a Client-facing individual.

"I grew up with very diverse influences. So I honestly didn't realize I was the only person of color to be an account executive at the company until someone told me."

But that would not be his last accidental ground-breaking achievement.  In 2001, Prince started his own multicultural advertising agency called PFI: Marketing. The agency was part of a group of companies that managed the largest ever paid anti-obesity advertising campaign. The tagline, VERB, It's What You Do! can still be seen on t-shirts and other premium items in his southern New Jersey house.

David went on to become the first Head of Training, Education and Development at the advertising industry's largest trade association: the 4A's, and subsequently, the highest ranking African-American Group Director at McCann Worldwide.  He says everything he has ever achieved in life comes from someone who believed in him more than he believed in himself.

"There are people like Nancy Hill, Sallie Mars and Patty Ransom who are directly responsible for all of my success. They saw what I didn't see. I cannot be more in their debt."

PrinceAdguru is the latest project for David. He wanted to combine his advertising, Social Media and Multicultural experience into one practice that could benefit both agencies and Clients.  PrinceAdguru is not a Social Media Agency, and certainly not a product.  It is a suite of services designed to help agencies better target and develop content for multicultural audiences.

"As much as we'd love to sing Kumbaya, when it comes to Social Media, there are clear differences in the way Hispanics, Asians, and African Americans consume and share in Social Media."

The differences include how some audiences listen more than they contribute. How audiences use the information available through blogs; and the devices they use to access their Social Media networks.  Prince says that, just as with traditional media, it is crucial to understand how the multicultural audiences engage with Social Media.  Cultural nuances are the key to successful connections.

At the present moment, the company is starting to pick up momentum.  PrinceAdguru just landed an assignment with a global translation and localization company, and is working with one of the largest global media agency holding companies.  Not bad for someone who claims to have gotten into the business after watching the 1986 Tom Hanks movie, Noting in Common.

"I owe Hanks a drink, if we ever meet."
