Local residents are invited to celebrate the grand opening of the city’s newest recreation spot, the 11.5-acre Sports Park at Spencer’s Crossing, Murrieta’s master-planned community by Brookfield Residential Properties. The event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 3 starting at 8:30 a.m.
The event, organized by Valley-Wide Recreation and Park District and sponsored by Brookfield Residential, will show off the highly anticipated community amenity with its lighted soccer and baseball fields, basketball court, tot lots and concession stand. Located at the corner of Max Gillis Boulevard and Briggs Road in Murrieta, the park provides another link in the active, growing community, which also features new home neighborhoods by Richmond American, Woodside Homes and D.R. Horton.
“We’re excited to see the park ready for children and families,” said Dennis Chapman, Vice President at Brookfield Residential Properties. “As the recreational focal point for Spencer’s Crossing, it will be a wonderful place for family gatherings and community events as well as athletics and fitness activities.”
With 1,793 homes planned in the 607-acre community, Spencer’s Crossing combines rural charm with contemporary neighborhoods and beautiful new home designs. A private recreation center for Spencer’s Crossing homeowners, set to open in early 2013, will complement the public sports park that is the newest one operated by the 40-year-old Valley-Wide Park and Recreation District.
The park dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony begin at 8:30 a.m., followed by a complimentary pancake breakfast. A ceremonial first pitch will mark the start of the first softball tournament to be played at the park.
Softball teams will vie for the inaugural Spencer’s Crossing title while basketball aficionados try their hands in a free-throw contest on the basketball court. Also planned are children’s activities on the soccer field, including arts and crafts, bouncers and games.
“When we create our communities, we always keep families in mind, from the way we select builders who bring a wealth of experience and creativity to their designs, to how the amenities complete the community,” Chapman said. “Sports are a critical piece of the puzzle so seeing this park come to fruition is our way of contributing to the health of our residents and the community.”
