To name just a few of the Civic line's accolades:
• The Natural Gas model has been given Green Car Journal’s “Green Car of The Year” award for 2012.
• Kelley Blue book recognized the whole Civic line as some of the greenest cars available today in it’s “Greenest Cars of 2012 List”.
• Greencars.org lists both the Natural Gas and Hybrid Civics in its “Greenest Vehicles of 2012 List” as well. That list also contains the Insight and the CR-Z, which means that Honda vehicles take four spots out of twelve, far more than any other manufacturer on the list.
The Civic Natural Gas
Green Car Journal’s top pick for Green Car of The Year is also the only mass produced passenger vehicle on the market that runs on natural gas. Natural gas is much cleaner burning than gasoline, making the tail-pipe emissions of the Honda Natural Gas almost non-existent. The Natural Gas Civic has actually been available for fleets since 1998 and only last year did Honda begin manufacturing it for everyday consumers.
The vehicle also won the second-highest California Air Resource Board rating of Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle. The EPA-estimated fuel economy is rated at 38 mpg highway. The Civic Natural Gas has an advantage over all electric cars because of its increased range and reduced fill up times. On one tank of compressed gas the vehicle can drive 240 miles, and it only takes 5 minutes to fill up at the station.
The Civic Hybrid
Both Kelley Blue Book and Greencars.org named the Hybrid as one of the greenest cars of the year. The Hybrid’s impressive 44 mpg EPA-estimated fuel economy in both the city and on the highway is made possible by its hybrid electric/gas motor and continuously variable transmission. Both the Hybrid and the Natural Gas come equipped with Eco Assist and the ECON button to improve efficiency further.
