Splendour Furnishings, the country’s most premium interior décor fabric designers, keep a careful watch over consumer trends and also predict each year the paint hues that will best resonate with designers and homeowners.
Looking ahead in 2012, Sharan Parekh, Director, Splendour, predicts a blue palette for the Indian consumer. “We deal with the best minds in the business, an Armani Casa to Sahco to a Larsen, to understand the science behind the right shade and the right color for your home. Women have an exceptional eye for taste and luxury and we try to bring the world’s best offerings to the women at Splendour.”
Sharan elaborates on the choice of blue that makes its way in the homes of his clientele, “The fashion runway is what primarily influences the color. So a vibrant petrol blue is daring and confident while a sky blue is a safe and calm. The colors are classic and enduring, two qualities that work the best for Indian consumers who have travelled globally and imbibed the best of European tastes.”
The blue could also be a unique way of combating the frenzied pace of life today. Its calming influence is what could act as an antidote to the pace. The spectrum starts from petrol blue (dark) to an aquamarine/Wythe moving to a powder blue.
Sharan Parekh, just back from the world’s largest furnishings expo in Paris says, “In addition to Wythe Blue, two other shades stand out to the color experts here. The first is Montpelier, which is more on the steely side, continuing the attraction of gray-toned hues. Montpelier, like Wythe, was described as having a “timeless quality.” The second is Baby Pink, the lighter fresher tone of rose. With tones of red and vermillion in it, Baby Pink provides a fresh contrast to all shades of Blue.”
Sharan added that the blue family in general is an ideal backdrop for other colors and materials. “It’s an excellent partner to various wood tones, and complements the grays and whites that have become current basic favorites.”
