PRLog - Oct. 25, 2012 - MELBOURNE, Australia -- Mr. William Abbott has been appointed Non-Executive Director of Australian satellite company, NewSat Ltd (ASX: NWT), and effectivity started October 24, 2012. Mr. Abbott served as an external lawyer to the company prior to being appointed as Corporate Counsel back in 2010. He also acted in the acquisition of the Perth and Adelaide teleport facilities back in 2005, and more recently, he was also behind the acquisition of an additional eight orbital slots for the company.

Mr. Abbott has been practising law for 30 years in the corporate field, and has extensive experience in international business transactions, and dealings with foreign jurisdictions. Over the past 12 months, he has worked closely with NewSat for the company’s Jabiru Satellite Program, working on funding agreements with the US Ex-Im Bank and COFACE, and has been involved in commercial negotiations and contracts with both vendors and customers.
In lieu of Mr. Abbott’s appointment to NewSat’s Board of Directors, he will retain his position as Corporate Counsel to the company, and continue serving as a consultant to HWL Ebsworth, as well as functioning as Non-Executive Director to a number of unlisted companies. Presently, Mr. Abbott is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
