It’s been over 10 years since I lived pain-free. I worked at a warehouse where I did repetitive lifting and now paying the price for it.

One Saturday I was not able to get out bed and I told my wife, so she set up an appointment with a doctor.  Monday came and I was pretty nervous.  The doctor told me that it might just be muscle spasms  but to be sure he recommended an MRI to be done.

Numbness In The Leg

A couple of days later my doctor told me that I had 2 hernitaed disc and another there would have to be another test. An electromyogram (EMG) is a test that is used to record the electrical activity of muscles. When muscles are active, they produce an electrical current. This current is usually proportional to the level of the muscle activity. An EMG is also referred to as a myogram.

EMGs are used to detect abnormal electrical activity of muscle that can occur in pinched nerves, peripheral nerve damage (damage to nerves in the arms and legs) and many others.

As time passed my situation was getting worse..muscle spasm to pinched nerves to numbness the in leg.

Numbness In The Leg

Sitting down was becoming a burden. It would take about 15-20 minutes until my leg went numb. That was not going well for a tech guy in a big company like Merrill Lynch.  My job was to install software to users for all departments.  So you can imagine the discomfort I was going through.  Then It just got worse.  Standing up was becoming a problem, sleeping comfortable didn’t exist. My lower back and right leg was just acting up pretty much all day…and everyday.

If you ever wondered how it feels to have a back problem.  Just picture getting hit with a bat on your lower back.  The muscle tightness and the pinched nerve is just the tip of the iceberg.  Soon you will encounter numbness in the leg or the 10 thousand needles for just sitting, standing or laying down.

Epidural injection was an option I took…several times within 2 years.  IT DIDN’T WORK.  The most I got was 3-4 days of pain free but that was it.

Radiofrequency rhizotomy.. basically what it is.  They will zap the nerve end to help relieve the pain.  I didn’t want any part of that.  So I decided to go ahead and stick with the old treatment.

Daily Exercise

MedlinePlus explains that a lack of blood supply can lead to numbness in the leg and feet. According to “Natural Health Magazine,” exercising for a few minutes a day can help circulate the blood flow to the muscles. A brief walk or exercising at least once a day, even for just 10 minutes, can be beneficial.

When I do walk for a short period of time I do feel less tightness in my lower back.

So i recommend go outside and walk around a block or two.  Bring a friend with you. Time will fly and you surely would have fun.

Take care and watch yourself.
