Spine Surgeon Launches Nonprofit for those Without Insurance

PRLog (Press Release) - Oct. 24, 2012 - One of Southern California’s leading spine surgeons has launched a nonprofit designed to offer those without medical insurance hope for a new lease on life.  Board-certified orthopaedic surgeon Hooman M. Melamed, M.D. said his new humanitarian organization, Back To You, will select one patient each month to receive free, state-of the-art treatment of cervical and lumbar spine disorders, tumors, scoliosis, degenerative disc disease and complications from botched surgeries.

Those hoping to be considered are asked to submit a brief description of their condition, how it’s affecting their lives and what they hope that treatment will bring them.  Submissions may be made to: backtoyounonprofit@gmail.com.  A panel of judges will evaluate each submission.

Melamed represents the new wave of orthopaedic surgeons who are on the cutting edge of the latest surgical techniques.  It is his approach to diagnosis and patient bedside manner, however, that really distinguishes him from others in the field.  He rebuffs the one-treatment-fits-all approach, so common among surgeons who feel they can simply take a few moments with a patient to make a diagnosis.  Instead, he takes his time to ensure a proper diagnosis, discusses treatment options with them and develops a course of care to ensure long-term spine health.

“There are so many people who do not have access to spine treatment for one reason or another so I launched Back To You to offer them hope,” said Melamed.  “With so many new forms of treatment including minimally invasive surgical techniques that weren’t available even a year ago, I feel confident that we will meet our goal of bringing pain-free lives to those now suffering.”
