The founder of the Walgherton and Crewe based paper supplies specialists was speaking after figures revealed that the 18 years old company is experiencing a dramatic year on year increase in production due to significantly increasing demand especially from the education sector.
“We have been supplying the education sector since we launched this business and our reputation for quality and a totally customer focused service has resulted in regular and substantial orders from schools right across the North,” added Mr Cowen.
“However, that reputation has also been instrumental in introducing us to many other schools in other regions around the country including Cornwall. In fact demand for our products in the South West is so healthy we are making a further trip there this month.”
One Alexander Paper Supplies customer in Cornwall is headmistress Lyn MacNamara from St Uny’s primary school near St Ives who first came across the company when she was with a school in Cheshire.
“Alexander Paper Supplies offers us a completely personalised service,” she said. “If you are passionate about what to do you want to ensure the materials you use are just right and you can do that with Alexander Paper. You can touch the paper, see the vivid colours and make your decision.
“Theirs is not just a sales process. They listen to what is required and find a uniquely personal solution as they did with our Learning Process Books. These are bespoke quality workbooks, complete with the school’s name and logo that contain a record of each child’s progress across all subjects.
“Obviously, when I moved to Cornwall I maintained my contact with Alexander paper Supplies and continue to use their services.”
Mark Clutsom, headmaster of Upton Cross Primary School near Liskeard said: “Alexander Paper Supplies provides the sort of personal service that the bigger companies can’t. They provide a high quality, bright and vibrant range of products and a personal service that we are thrilled with.”
Alexander Paper's General Manager Dawn Abercrombie, herself a former teacher, is in regular contact with education sector clients from the company’s Dagfields Craft Centre’s HQ.
She said: “My background gives me an understanding of the sector’s requirements and I know only too well that head teachers in particular, appreciate the fact that they can discuss their ideas and their needs with us before placing an order. They seem to be very impressed with our service.
“We have been supplying a wide range of products to schools since the company began so it really is a core activity and a very important market sector for us.
“Several of our schools have been particularly pleased with our supply of a range of Process books that pupils can use to chart their progress through school. The books can be personalised with the name of the particular school.”
Alexander Paper recently invested in a range of new machinery at its Crewe factory to enable sketch pad production to rise to around 250,000 this year. And Mr Cowen believes annual production will break through the one million per year mark within three years.
