“Now smile”… a simple thing as a child’s smile or a child having confidence to make it through the day is taken for granted. What some people take for granted is something that every person should consider a gift. The gift of health and the ability to smile.
Children both domestically and across the world are born with facial deformities and or suffer from trauma. Every child is entitled to proper care; unfortunately this is not the case. There are many chartable organizations that focus on the treatment and wellbeing of children’s health, and most are worthy of praise.
The Facing Futures Organization is one such organization that has been operating for 19 years and has helped thousands of children across the world and here at home. Dr. Barry Steinberg of Shands Jacksonville has dedicated most of his professional career to the advancement of his chosen field through academics and helping his community through civil service. For his country by serving as a colonel in the united states army, and changing the futures of unfortunate children by giving them the ability to smile with confidence.
Each year for the last 19 years, Dr. Barry Steinberg and his team of Health care professionals travel to Vietnam to help children in need, while working under the most austere conditions. Hundreds of labored hours are dedicated in the operating room providing a brighter future for children and their families that once was not an option. These families live in fear of being ostracized by their community and fear for their children’s ability to ever have a happy future. Dr. Steinberg and his team dedicate their time, and their own money to ensure that children in need will receive the care that they deserve.
With any cause that involves surgical procedures and traveling across the world it can become costly. The Facing Futures organization is now asking for the community to help a cause that is actually worth praise. A cause where proceeds are used for there intended reason. An organization created not for an individuals need for recognition, but the desire to help put a smile on a child’s face.
