By: The Dallas Institute of Humanitites and Culture Skip Hollandsworth and Richard Linklater were the writers behind the hit film BERNIE which is based on a true story and an article Hollandsworth wrote for Texas Monthly entitled “Midnight in the Garden of East Texas.” The film included big name actors Jack Black, Shirley MacLaine, and Matthew McConaughey and was based on the 1996 murder of Marjorie Nugent, a native of Carthage, Texas. Hollandsworth’ “We are excited to discuss these great Texas stories with Skip,” said J. Larry Allums Ph.D., executive director of The Dallas Institute. “His knowledge of Texas along with his outstanding accomplishments will make for a very enjoyable evening. For anyone interested in embracing a night dedicated to Texas, this is one not to miss.” The program will take place Friday November 2, 2012 from 7 – 8:30 p.m., with food, refreshments and the two-man band Slideshow Tragedy performing at 6 p.m. at The Dallas Institute.
