The Dallas Institute Presents "BERNIE: Inside the Life of Small-Town Texas" with Skip Hollandsworth

The Dallas Institute presents BERNIE: Inside the Life of Small-Town Texas with Skip Hollandsworth sharing inside stories about the film BERNIE, and leading a discussion about Texas from a writer's viewpoint.

Oct. 23, 2012 - PRLog -- DALLAS, OCTOBER 23, 2012: The Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture will present BERNIE: Inside the Life of Small-Town Texas” an evening with Skip Hollandsworth on Friday, November 2, 2012. Sharing inside stories about the film BERNIE, Hollandsworth will lead guests in a discussion about Texas from a writer’s viewpoint.  Texas country music, Shiner beer and pots of home-made chili will add to the flavor of the full Texas celebration.

Skip Hollandsworth and Richard Linklater were the writers behind the hit film BERNIE which is based on a true story and an article Hollandsworth wrote for Texas Monthly entitled “Midnight in the Garden of East Texas.” The film included big name actors Jack Black, Shirley MacLaine, and Matthew McConaughey and was based on the 1996 murder of Marjorie Nugent, a native of Carthage, Texas. Hollandsworth’s articles in Texas Monthly are revered nationwide and have launched three made-for-television movies, The Almost Perfect Bank Robbery, Suburban Madness, and Love’s Deadly Triangle: The Texas Cadet Murder.

“We are excited to discuss these great Texas stories with Skip,” said J. Larry Allums Ph.D., executive director of The Dallas Institute. “His knowledge of Texas along with his outstanding accomplishments will make for a very enjoyable evening. For anyone interested in embracing a night dedicated to Texas, this is one not to miss.”

The program will take place Friday November 2, 2012 from 7 – 8:30 p.m., with food, refreshments and the two-man band Slideshow Tragedy performing at 6 p.m. at The Dallas Institute.
