LMI’s Canes Elected to Leadership Role in USAEE

PRLog (Press Release) - Oct. 23, 2012 - McLean, Va., October 23, 2012 — Michael E. Canes, PhD, a Distinguished Fellow at the LMI Research Institute, and a key member of LMI’s energy practice, has been nominated and elected to be president of the United States Association for Energy Economics (USAEE) (http://www.usaee.org/). Dr. Canes will head a professional association representing more than 1,100 energy economists from around the country, first as president-elect in 2013 and then as the organization’s president in 2014.

“Mike is one of LMI’s most effective and versatile thought leaders, providing meaningful contributions to internal research projects and client work,” LMI Research Institute Program Manager Taylor Wilkerson said. “That he continues to actively pursue new research to answer some of the public sector’s most pressing energy challenges shows his devotion to solving some of the critical issues of our time.”

Dr. Canes is one of the lead authors of two LMI books dealing with climate change: A Federal Leader’s Guide to Climate Change (http://www.lmi.org/News---Publications/publications/publi...) and, most recently, Climate Change: What You Can Do Now (http://www.lmi.org/Markets/Energy---Environment-(1)/Clima...), and is a nationally recognized expert in the field of energy economics. He joined LMI in 2000 after a distinguished career as vice president and chief economist of the American Petroleum Institute. His areas of expertise include energy economics, energy management, energy policy, environmental management, and environmental economics. He was a principal author of the Defense Science Board’s 2008 study of Department of Defense energy strategy. Dr. Canes earned a BS in mathematics and an MBA from the University of Chicago, an MS in economics from the London School of Economics, and a PhD in economics from UCLA.
