Approximately 1 in 8 women* (just under 12%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of their lifetime. Many of us have either been directly affected by the disease or know someone who has. Dr. Lori Saltz of La Jolla Cosmetic Surgery Centre has seen first-hand the trials and tribulations (and the triumph!) of coping with breast cancer. She has had several close friends and coworkers who have battled and overcome the diagnosis.
As a woman, Dr. Saltz recognizes the importance of being properly educated on the risks of breast cancer. As a physician, she can teach women the correct way to perform a breast exam and provide answers to the various questions that her patients and their girlfriends may have.
The event, hosted a few times throughout the year, is a Girl’s Night Out affair that will not only focus on how to perform breast exams and breast cancer awareness, but will provide informal talks regarding popular surgical breast and body procedures. Its “think pink” theme will include pink champagne and punch, snacks and pink decor. Because this low-key, casual evening is dedicated to women only, there is no reason to be bashful, and attendees are encouraged to bring their female loved ones along. There will be informative handouts on breast exam techniques for the women to take home.
