By: Lachi Music New York City-based singer-songwriter, pianist and author Lachi headlines a benefit concert at NYC’s Webster Hall to help raise awareness and funds for the anti-bullying foundation Kindness Above Malice on November 9th. Joining Lachi in this effort are pop/rock and hip hop artists iPhonic and ILLSpokinn along with the comedic storytelling series Yum’s The Word, featuring 30 Rock's Sue Galloway. Doors open at 6pm and the show starts at 7pm. Lachi is teaming up with other NYC-based artists from the hip hop and comedy worlds to further her mission in spreading positivity and empowerment to a new generation of youths who feel isolated, alone and/or bullied. “I want to have an event where the music has a positive yet thought provoking message while still being fun,” says Lachi. Calling the event “Raise Your Voice”, Lachi hopes to raise awareness in young people who feel marginalized or bullied in any way, that there are people and organizations like Kindness Above Malice (KAM) out there to support them. Feeling marginalized and isolated growing up due to her legal blindness, Lachi found hope and freedom in music and words. She overcame her disability and focused on her musical gift of voice. She recorded her debut album Lachi in 2010 and gained national media attention with interviews on Oprah Radio, CBS Radio, CW 11, and The Onion. Lachi has just recorded her second album Make Some Noise also with the intention of spreading a positive message of raising self-esteem and confidence in young people. KAM aims to affirm students who have risen above the mean-spirited adolescent bullying that plagues middle and high schools nationwide and who have defended those who have been bullied. Those few students brave and compassionate enough to help those feeling alone and lost can help in preventing adolescent suicide victims such as Kameron Jacobson, who committed suicide at the age of 14 and serves as the inspiration for KAM. Lachi will be supported by three differing acts and artists during the benefit. Storytelling act Yum’s The Word, which brings various comedians and storytellers from around the city to share a birthday party with a member of the audience and to wax on past experiences, will be opening the evening at 7 p.m., with a special guest appearance by actress and comedic writer Sue Galloway (30 Rock, freelance writer for SNL's Weekend Update). Homemade ice cream cakes and balloon animals will also be given to the first 50 people courtesy of Yum’s the Word. Also on the bill are pop-rock band iPhonic at 8 p.m. followed by special guest rapper ILLSpokinn. In addition to live music, there will be a silent auction for an autographed Paul McCartney guitar, some autographed Beatles, Dylan and U2 albums, a signed 30 Rock script, a signed copy of Tina Fey's Bossypants along with many other great items, and a raffle for even more great giveaways! There will also be an art installation by photographer/ Lachi will take the stage at 9 p.m., performing songs from her upcoming album Make Some Noise, which releases in January 2013.
