Classical Music Composer & Pianist Sharon Ruchman Releases Fourth CD in Four Years: "Textures"

PRLog (Press Release) - Oct. 23, 2012 - “Textures” is the enticing title of classical music composer and pianist, Sharon Ruchman of Washington, Connecticut (www.sharonruchman.com) for her just-released CD, “Textures”. This is the fourth CD Ruchman has released in four consecutive years’ time. “Sharon Ruchman Chamber Music” featuring “Sea Glass” was her first CD released in October 2009; “Arrival of Spring”, her second CD, was released in November 2010, and in November 2011 she released her third self-composed CD, “Remembrance”. “The music in me is fluid and prolific,” she commented. ‘Textures’ was a natural creative flow that began with the culmination of my third CD, ’Remembrance’.  

An accomplished composer and musician, an extensive personal interview with Ruchman was featured in the January 2012 issue of Fanfare magazine which included a review of her first two CDs, “Sharon Ruchman Chamber Music” and “Arrival of Spring”. In May of 2012, a second review was published for her third CD, “Remembrance”. Published and written exclusively for the avid classical CD collector and music aficionado, Fanfare magazine features extensive interviews with classical music composers and performers. Ruchman noted, “The magazine’s reporter told me I was unique to their coverage in that I am both an accomplished musician as well as a composer of classical music.”

In recent YouTube videos Ruchman recorded for the release of her newest CD, she speaks about the “qualities and textures of music”. She explains, “Like woven fabrics, music has melodies and harmonies that weave in and out of a piece giving it a certain pattern of interest.

My intent, in each of my CDs, is to create pieces that offer different instrumentation. For the first time, I’ve created a violin and cello duet for this latest CD. Two stringed instruments playing together convey to the listener a feeling of warmth, lushness, and emotion.”

Ruchman continued, “Also for the first time, there is a flute and cello duet that offers something of a ‘mysterious’ quality. My other tracks on the new ‘Textures’ CD offers a cello and piano duet, a violin and piano duet, and two piano pieces. "Meditation" is a soothing piece that can transport the listener to a place of calmness.”

Pianist Sharon Ruchman worked in collaboration with cellist Mary Costanza, also of Washington, Connecticut, violinist Janet Boughton of Guilford, Connecticut, and flutist Kim Collins of Trumbull, Connecticut to perform Ruchman’s original compositions for her new “Textures” CD. On the CD, Ruchman’s compositions are presented on 15 tracks: Track 1-3 Sonata for Cello and Piano in F Sharp Minor; Track 4-5 Duet for Flute and Cello in D Minor; Track 6-8 Piano Sonata in B Flat Major; Track 9-11 Duet for Violin and Cello in A Flat Major; Track 12- Meditation (piano); Track 13-15 Sonata for Violin and Piano in D Minor.  

“My greatest desire,” expressed Ruchman, “is to write beautiful melodies that linger long in the listener's mind. Feelings of contentment and fulfillment dominate my experience when composing, and I long to have my audience emotionally connect with my music.”  

Sharon Ruchman earned her Master of Music (MM) degree from the Yale School of Music, and her Bachelor of Music (BM) degree at the New England Conservatory of Music. She was an accompanist with the New England Conservatory chorus, and upon graduation she taught music in the West Haven, Connecticut elementary and middle schools while she pursued her singing career and performed throughout Connecticut. She then returned to Yale School of Music to study composition with Yale graduate, teacher and accomplished composer, Orianna Webb.

During 2007 and 2008, Ruchman wrote several compositions and began working with several northwestern Connecticut area musicians. Her love of composition has led her to become a member of several professional composers associations including the American Music Center, the American Composers Forum, and IAWN, International Alliance for Women in Music.
