RFID and How it’s Being Used in 2012

The Radio-frequency chips embedded allows identity verification, cashless transactions and excitingly; social media integration. Races and race timing

Marathons and triathlons are also using RFID to time competitors and automatically record and relay timing online. Participating athletes are tagged with an RFID chip that sits around their ankle as they  race. The chip is activated at the start of the race, once the racer finishes they step on a mat that reads the high frequency chip and records their time.

Gyms and Leisure Centres

More and more gyms and leisure centres are using RFID wristbands (primarily silicone) to control venue access and to access lockers. By using this method, you are eliminating the issue of lost keys or forgotten pass codes/words.

RFID at Schools

RFID can be used virtually for anything, even tracking your children at school! This new craze sees RFID chips being placed within the school uniforms of school children to ensure they are not skipping class and are arriving to school safely. When the child wearing their uniform enters the school grounds the RFID chip is activated and sends a text message to their parents notifying them the child has arrived. However if the child does not enter school grounds within 20 minutes of class starting the RFID chip sends the following  message: "Your child has still not arrived at school".  This not only a great way to keep an eye on your child, but also a great way to make parents accountable when they allow their children to not attend school.

This same concept can be used within the workplace to access who is attending meetings.
