PRLog - Oct. 22, 2012 - MAHWAH, N.J. -- MAHWAH, NJ—Dr. Scott C. Peters, a pediatric dentist in Mahwah, knows a fun and
sweet way to make everyone smile. From November 1st through November 11th, trick-ortreaters can trade in their excess candy for various gifts and cash. This year marks the
fifth consecutive Halloween that Dr. Peters will be collecting candy to send to our troops
overseas through the Halloween Candy Buyback program.
This annual program is a part of a larger initiative called Operation Gratitude, a nonprofit
organization created for the sole purpose of sending care packages to U.S. Service
Members deployed in hostile regions, to their children, and to Wounded Warriors,
Veterans, and First Responders. Each year, Operation Gratitude sends 100,000 care
packages filled with snacks, entertainment items, and personal letters of appreciation to
the U.S. Military with the intent to lift morale and put smiles on faces.
"Candy is a special treat for all of our troops overseas. They don't get a chance to
celebrate Halloween with their families, and this gives them just a small taste of home.
It’s the least we can do to show our troops that we care. Kids in the area get so much
extra candy during Halloween, and this gives them a chance to feel good about doing
something,” says Dr. Peters.
Global sugar consumption for kids increases every year, which means that parents need to be more active than ever in teaching the importance of good dental hygiene, as well as making sure their children’s teeth are being cared for. Dr. Peters adds, “We can also decrease the amount of candy kids have at home, which is a good way to decrease
cavities and help slow down obesity."
Candy donations can be made at the office of Dr. Scott C. Peters from November 1st until November 11th during regular business hours. The candy must be wrapped and unopened,
and then it will be shipped to troops overseas through Operation Gratitude. To learn
more, call Dr. Peters’ office at (201) 529-9000.
