National Chemistry Week is one of SEM Link’s favorite STEM themed weeks of the year because several members of both of our boards as well our Founder and Executive Director Ms. Tokiwa T. Smith have degrees in biochemistry, chemistry or chemical engineering. “The purpose of National Chemistry Week is to raise public awareness of the importance of chemistry in everyday life. By going out in the community and performing hands on demonstrations for K-12 students we are able to stay true to this goal while at the same time allowing us to inspire and motivate young students to see the impact that STEM has on their everyday lives” stated Dr. Kenyetta A. Johnson SEM Link Board of Director and Chemistry Professor “Many students can become intimidated by science and math, partially because they can’t connect how the concepts they learn in class relate to the real world. This demo’s allows us to inspire and motivate students and hopefully encourage them to pursue a future in STEM fields.”
If you would like to make a financial contribution to support this outreach effort to connect youth to chemistry professionals, we are accepting contributions to our “Donate Your Lunch Money” Individual Donor Campaign between now and November 2. Your tax deductible contribution can be made online via our National Chemistry Week Campaign website https://co.clickandpledge.com/?
