Oct. 23, 2012 - PRLog -- Unwined Candles, a Sykesville, Maryland based, environmentally friendly candle company, has been invited to be a featured product at this year’s 46th Annual CMA Awards in Nashville, Tennessee on Thursday, November 1st 2012. The company has been given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to setup a booth in the official backstage Presenter/ Performer Gift Lounge. There, they will display their candles and hand them out to the celebrities participating in the event.

The Unwined Candle Company got its start in Sykesville, Maryland in 2011. Owner, Dave Neith and his wife, Anna came up with the concept after brainstorming ways to bring some extra income into their household. Dave and Anna both work full-time from home, but with three boys under the age of three, they wanted to figure out a way to earn some extra money without having to sacrifice time with their children.

“The idea came up when we noticed how many bottles were discarded on a daily basis,” said Dave. “I wanted something out of the ordinary to replace the traditional candle jar, mason jar, or the metal tins that we always see. We tossed around a few ideas, and then I got my hands on some bottles. I tested different ways to cut and prep them… and that’s how it stuck. People love wine and we knew of a lot of local restaurants and businesses that were excited to partner with us to recycle their bottles.”

Understanding the importance of taking a moment to relax and unwind at the end of a busy day inspired Dave and Anna’s choices when they began picking out “flavors” for their candles.

“We decide on the flavors really through trial and error,” said Dave. “We try to come up with fragrance blends that promote relaxation and also, we take a lot of feedback from our customers. We plan to continue to release new scents inspired by the changing seasons.”

Currently, they have 12 flavors in addition to the 4 Limited Edition holiday “flavors” they just introduced, Pumpkin Pie, Grandma’s Kitchen, Gingerbread Lane, and Winter Woods. Some flavors change seasonally and some favorites are around all year long. They are in the process of testing out some Wine inspired flavors as well. And with every great product, comes a lot of hard work. Each candle is handmade by Dave and Anna from start to finish. On a weekly basis they collect bottles to be used. After soaking them, they take the labels off, cut, sand, and then dry them. Next, they prepare the wax, which is then hand-poured. Once that process is complete, the candles are hand-labeled using a label that Dave designed himself.

“What sets us apart is that we do everything from start to finish so that every single candle is unique… a different color, different shape,” said Anna. “No two candles are identical. It’s really a labor of love.”

While Unwined Candles has had tremendous success at local festivals and retail shops across the country, Dave and Anna are extremely excited for the opportunity to expand into new markets and to get their candles to new high-profile customers.

“The networking aspect of our business is what really excites us,” said Dave. “Being able to take something that we make with our hands and put so much time and energy into and introduce it to a large number of people… a bonus is that it’s Country Music’s Biggest Night®, but I get excited before all of my events. Just getting our candles and the word of our company out there is invaluable to us.”
