Susan G. Komen for the Cure is a foundation to raise awareness about breast cancer and to aid towards prevention and treatment research.  Nancy Brinker started the foundation in 1982 after promising her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, that she would do everything she could to find a cure for breast cancer. Since then, the Komen foundation has played a critical role in breast cancer treatment and has helped turned millions of breast cancer victims into survivors.  One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Older women are more likely to get breast cancer but it can also happen to women in their 20s. It’s also possible for men to be diagnosed with breast cancer. Out of every one hundred cases of breast cancer, one will occur in a man.  Because no one knows exactly what causes breast cancer, there is no certain way to prevent it. However, research has showed some steps that can be taken to reduce the risk. Some of these steps are maintaining a healthy weight, adding an exercise routine, breastfeeding, and limiting your alcohol.
