Blind Journey: A Journalist's Memoirs tells of a young man just out of the military who became a copyboy at a Hollywood newspaper. From there he began writing show reviews and sports stories, and in his spare time, wrote TV and radio scripts. In 1970, he joined the Los Angeles Times, where he wrote both sports and entertainment articles. During Jack Hawn’s career, he covered Muhammad Ali, the 1984 Olympics, as well as Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., and the biggest stars of the time, until his retirement in 1991.
This is a story you won’t want to miss; the author writes of his “wild ambition, bursting optimism, and unshakeable confidence.”
Rave reviews for Jack Hawn’s Blind Journey:
“Memoirs can have limited appeal and some autobiographies rely on mentioning famous people for their appeal. But this doesn’t happen in Blind Journey…It’
Blind Journey is an apt title for this book. Maybe it was fate or destiny, but Hawn did not plan to be a journalist. The doors opened for him and he entered through them, which led him to a spectacular career spanning 43 years…I found it refreshing to “meet” Jack Hawn and to watch him learn the industry of journalism while on the job…Hawn successfully allows readers to get to know the real Jack Hawn.” – Anne B.
(Note to publisher): “I'm a friend and former Los Angeles Times colleague of Jack Hawn's and attended his appearance at the Southern California Sportscasters lunch this week where it was great to see him again and I was happy to buy his book. I've now read it and love it.” – Ron Rapoport, former L.A. Times sportswriter
Jack writes of Private Floyd Humeston and his tame lion and of meeting Ann Miller, the McGuire sisters and the Brown Derby's Bob Cobb, creator of the now-famous Cobb salad. He tells of meeting the incredible twenty-year-
“I was very much impressed with your book (and I don't impress easily!! Honest.) … You may consider entering it into the Writer's Digest international self-published contest, a well-respected contest. You would get a lot of publicity by winning/placing.”
“…Blind Journey (A Journalist's Memoirs) is a well written record of a portion of one man's life experiences. By virtue of his vocation, events of very interesting people in sports, entertainment, and public and private life are told from personal encounters. The book is easy reading in a style that well suits the story. Once one begins to read the book, few readers will be able to put the book down. As an avid non-fiction reader, I highly recommend Blind Journey and it will have a prominent place in my library.” – Roland Robinson
