The workshop will take place on November 19, 2012 at the Vegas PBS Educational Technology Campus in Las Vegas Nevada.
After this half day event, don’t miss your chance for a special Q&A session with Ms. Penny Reinart to go deeper into the presented materials. Also, small group consultation will be available from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM.
The Common Core State Standards have been adopted by 48 states, but teachers are still largely unfamiliar with what the in-depth standards are and how they should fit into everyday lesson plans. The Center for College & Career Readiness’ roster of senior faculty experts are ready to sit down with you during this grant funded workshop to help you take the most significant steps to effective Common Core implementation.
According to Kevin E. Baird, Chairman at the Institute for College and Career Readiness, the critical issue is how schools approach the standards. States Baird, "If we view the standards as just a new checklist of things to teach, we will fail. To meet College & Career Readiness requirements, we need to get fifth graders reading at today's eighth grade level. The NAEP results indicate more writing is critical. The new assessments require thinking - not just 'knowing'. Accelerating two to three grade levels is more than a challenge - but it's possible."
Nevada students are scheduled to take the new assessments for the Common Core State Standards beginning in the 2014-2015 school year. Schools have less than 24 months to prepare students for the new exams. This grant funded workshop can help.
All workshops are customized for your State’s specific needs. Past consultations have included:
• Evaluations of influencing priorities
• Assessment of current implementation
• Development of a road map to achieve Common Core implementation goals
• Instructional planning support and modeling
• Goal setting for school and individualized progress
• Planning for differentiated instruction
All registrants will receive the full presentation for use in their own professional development teams.
