Follow on Google News | New Website Helps Label Sensor UsersA new label sensor web site is focused on providing helpful information rather than marketing and promotion.
By: Lion Precision Until 1995, all label sensors used optical technology and had similar performance. That began to change in 1995 when clear label sensors using capacitive sensing technology were introduced . The original capacitive sensors wouldn’t work with metallic materials. So a new type of capacitive sensor was introduced in 1999 to eliminate that problem, but the new sensors struggled with solid foil labels. Ultrasonic technology is the newest approach to label sensors. While ultrasonic sensors work well with metallic materials, they are the poorest performing technology in terms of speed and registration accuracy. According to Mark Kretschmar, communication manager for Lion Precision who sponsors the website, “All these options and all this technology have muddied the waters for label sensor users. We often speak to users who have a label sensor that isn’t well suited to their application. To help users make the right selection the first time, labelsensors.com was created as an information source, not a branding or promotional site.” The website offers help choosing the best label sensor based on strengths and weaknesses of each technology. It also offers assistance in on-going use of label sensors with technical articles, instruction manuals and basic label sensor installation procedures. News related to labeling is also listed on the site.
