Operation Homefront Georgia, one of 23 chapters of the National Organization currently serving 29 states, continues to fulfill the needs of our Georgia based active duty personnel in emergency situations such as food assistance, urgent and critical health care, infant supplies, emergency home repairs and assistance for children in the form of school supplies and clothing. Additionally, Operation Homefront Georgia assists our Wounded Warriors and their families when they return home and are faced with a variety of unfortunate challenges. This includes those suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
The Georgia Chapter provides support to all 13 active duty installations in the state including our National Guard and Reserve commands. In 2011 the Georgia Chapter assisted over 17,000 families. Based on assistance rendered thus far in 2012, we anticipate assisting in excess of 17,600 military families by year’s end.
MILITARY DEMOGRAPHY
There are currently an estimated 770,000 active duty spouses of which 93% are women. 80% of all active duty service personnel are younger than 35 years of age 40% of dependant children are under the age of 6. Even with the reported draw-down of US troops the interval between deployments of selected combat ready units is just over one year.
Operation Homefront’s Operation Santa's Call :
They are scheduled to kick off the 2012 holiday toy drive on Nov. 1, 2012 at Williamson Bros. Bar-B-Q in Marietta. Their goal is to collect over 2,100 new toys to help Santa provide a Merry Christmas to close to 1100 children from deserving military families throughout Georgia. The toys Santa needs help with gathering are for children aged 6 months to 14 years old. We would like to set up donation boxes at local businesses to collect new toys. We also would like to explore the possibility of doing onsite solicitations as well. Please help us make this Christmas season special for these deserving
families.
