As part of the nation’s leading franchise specializing in comprehensive home care for seniors, new mothers and other individuals needing recuperative and continuing care, Home Helpers & Direct Link of Hoover, AL began serving the local community on September 25th, 2012.
McMurry and Rogers each have over 25 years of experience in the local healthcare market. Together, in 2004 they founded Family Comfort Hospice and grew its operations to three licensed locations before selling it to Vitas Innovative Hospice in 2011. McMurry, who is a Certified Public Accountant, has also worked for Baptist Health System for a total of 14 years in executive leadership roles. Rogers, a Registered Nurse, has a strong background in home care and hospice nursing. He has planned and supervised home-based clinical activities for several medical providers in the local healthcare market.
They both have a personal passion for finding solutions for seniors and others who want to live at home as they age or recover from an illness. McMurry assisted his 90-year-old mother as she struggled to stay in her own home. After Rogers’s mother had a stroke a year and a half ago that severely limited her mobility, he and his family relied on in-home care for his mother’s comfort. McMurry and Rogers decided to open a local Home Helpers franchise based on their shared desire to own a rewarding business that assists seniors and their families.
“We strive to deliver the same quality of care we’d expect for our own families while offering clients a more affordable alternative to assisted living or nursing care facilities,”
McMurry added, “I’m pleased about the opportunity to help local seniors lead healthier, happier and more rewarding lives in the comfort of their own homes. A common desire for every senior is to age in their own home, and we want to make that happen for them.”
Home Helpers offers free in-home consultations and works with clients one-on-one to tailor a flexible care plan to meet their specific needs and budgets. Services offered include companionship, personal hygiene, meal preparation, transportation, and medical services, including medication management, vital signs monitoring and care management.
An innovative part of their new business is the home monitoring equipment known as Direct Link. Direct Link’s exclusive line of medical alert systems are monitored 24/7 by a CSAA 5-Diamond Certified Care Center, enabling seniors to live independently at home for as long as safely possible. The Direct Link product suite includes land-line and cellular personal emergency response systems (PERS), automated medication dispensers, GPS client-tracking Care Watch and remote vital signs monitoring units. If a Direct Link unit is activated or a reading is abnormal, the device alerts Home Helpers staff, 911 or any pre-established contacts, thereby easing family anxieties and maximizing client independence.
“In a society where family members sometimes live hundreds of miles from each other, Home Helpers & Direct Link can step in to fill the role of a good neighbor,” Rogers said. “Because our clients decide how often they need us and what services we can provide for them, it allows Home Helpers & Direct Link to offer affordable and convenient choices based on client specific requirements.”
