Oct. 18, 2012 - PRLog -- Remote Backup Systems Reinvents Hybrid Backup

Standard Hybrid Backup methods back up data offsite and to a local backup location. Two copies of backup data are maintained – one offsite and one local, and the client can restore from either location.

It is much faster to restore from the local copy, and having an identical offsite copy insures you can restore data even if the local equipment is destroyed, stolen, or inaccessible.

What is Redundant Hybrid Backup?

Now industry pioneer Remote Backup Systems has made backup even more reliable by building Redundant Hybrid Backup into its latest RBackup version 11.7.

Redundant Hybrid Backup (RHB) backs up computer data to three locations simultaneously – its own offsite RBackup Server, any local storage device, and a third location that can be defined by the user.

Making Use of the Cloud

The third redundant backup location can be any drive or folder addressable by the Client computer – a local hard drive, offsite through a VPN, and even Cloud Backup locations like Google Drive™ and DropBox™ that provide a locally mapped net-folder or drive letter.

The new RBackup can send backups to any one, or two, or all three locations simultaneously.

To keep the RBS Partner in control of the backup process, each backup session must be authenticated to the RBS Server, even if it is not sending backups to the RBS Server.

New Direct Client Mirroring – Saves Bandwidth, Time, and Money

RHB holds the promise of revolutionizing the way backups are done by supplementing (and maybe eliminating) server-side mirroring. RBS Partners can now set up direct Client-Server mirroring without the need for expensive, troublesome and bandwidth-hogging back-end systems to synchronize the RBS Server’s data store with a mirror location.

The new RBackup Client can now directly maintain its own mirrors (two of them) in customer-owned storage space and/or commercial Cloud services like Google Drive™ and DropBox™.

Solving Cloud Storage Compliance Problems

Most commercial Cloud services linked to locally mapped drives or folders provide no means of encryption or compression for stored files. Files sent to them are often stored in their fully native and readable form, with full filenames.

Storing data in the Cloud without encrypting it can be a security risk for sensitive data, especially when the end user is required to comply with data privacy regulations like HIPAA.

RBackup’s RHB fully encrypts and compresses all data before storing it in any of the locations it uses – local, RBS Server, or Cloud – using industry standard strong encryption (a choice of five methods.)  Even the filenames and folder names are encrypted.

RBackup’s Cloud Service support is available in version 11.7 to RBS Partners who have Priority Maintenance Subscriptions.

RBS Partners with active Maintenance Subscriptions can upgrade to version 11.7 now at Remote Backup Systems’ website, http://www.remote-backup.com
