Oct. 17, 2012 - PRLog -- Sydney -- Canon Australia has today announced an exciting new firmware upgrade that will enhance the performance of the company’s top-of-the line Professional DSLR camera, the renowned EOS-1D X.
Claiming the prestigious TIPA Best Professional DSLR Award for 2012, the EOS-1D X is already recognised as the ultimate choice for professionals, offering highly versatile features including: Full Frame 18.1 MP image sensor; continuous shooting up to 14 frames per second; a 61-point AF system and superior low-light performance with high ISO up to 204,800. Available for download from the Canon Australia website*1 from  today, firmware Version 1.1.1 http://support-au.canon.com.au/P/search?model=EOS-1D%20X&filter=0&menu=Download introduces a number of enhancements that will allow Professional photographers to achieve more from their camera when using fast super-telephoto lenses with extenders as well as when shooting in low-light conditions.

“The ultimate camera for professionals now becomes even better with these improvements to the AF system, offering an expanded range of lens options, increased focal lengths and improved functional ease when shooting in the dark,” says James Wilson, Brand Manager ¬– EOS Professional, Canon Australia. “We’re excited to be offering these features in direct response to user needs and to add real value to their work with a camera that delivers results.”

Key performance benefits:

1. Centre AF point  now enabled at f/8 when shooting with the combination of  super telephoto lenses*2 and extenders, allowing:
a. Increased focal length:
Drastically increasing the shooting range, Version 1.1.1 now makes it possible to use an EF600 f/4 lens and two-times extender to achieve a massive 1200mm focal length with precise AF performance. This will benefit professional photographers particularly those that shoot nature, wildlife, aviation or long distances.
b. Expanded range of lens options:
Version 1.1.1 now allows the use of new lenses and extenders such as the EF400mm f/5.6 and the EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS with 1.4x extenders, enabling zoom ranges up to 560mm.
2. AI Servo AF points illuminated in flashing red to support shooting in low-light environments
Until now it has been difficult to see the AF points when shooting in dark locations, or dark subjects. Now illuminated in flashing red, the AF points are clearly visible regardless of the lighting conditions or the darkness of the subject for improved usability.
