Tourism Port Douglas & Daintree Members Show Support At AGM

Oct. 17, 2012 - PRLog -- TPDD executive officer Doug Ryan said it was great to see so many familiar and new faces supporting the organisation and wanting to hear more about their activities in 2011/2012.

He said a record number of proxy votes had also been received for those unable to attend on the night. At the meeting, members voted unanimously to accept the chairman’s, executive officer’s and financial reports.

The AGM also saw Gordon Wellham re-elected as the Port Douglas zone director and Peter Martin as a general director. Greg Erwin was introduced as the newest board member taking on the role as the representative for the Mossman/Daintree zone. Greg is the general manager at the Mossman Gorge Centre.

Gordon is the owner of Exemplar Coaches and Limousines, while Peter brings a wealth of experience to the table as the owner of Lotsa Printing.

They will remain in their positions for a period of two years. Subsequent to the AGM, Gordon was appointed by the board as chairman, Sheena Walshaw as deputy chair and Peter as secretary treasurer. They join directors Natalie Johnson from Flames of the Forest, Rob Giason of Tourism Tropical North Queensland and Cairns Regional Council councillor Julia Leu.

“The board is an excellent mix of skills that will give great guidance in the future. Strategic planning is an important part of the future for TPDD and experience will strengthen the board and help to facilitate this,” Mr Ryan said.

“It is a skill based board with a special mix of business, tourism and marketing experience with an understanding and passion to drive growth in the Port Douglas and Daintree region. I am confident the experience of the board members will contribute to further growth and innovation.”

Mr Ryan also thanked the board members who stepped down this year. “Michael Healy and Claudia McFadden have been strong supporters of TPDD and their marketing guidance through 2012 has been invaluable. TPDD would also like to thank Gordon Wellham and Peter Martin, who return for another two-year term, as well as our members for their tireless support not only for this organisation but for the greater tourism industry.”

A special mention was also made of Scott Smith, who retired as the Mossman/Daintree representative in March this year after 6 years of service.
