Oct. 16, 2012 - PRLog -- Big Brothers Big Sisters would like to invite North Texas to an intimate evening with four-time Grammy Award nominated Singer-Songwriter Jewel at its 2012 Big Black Tie Ball. The event will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at the Omni Dallas Hotel, and is Big Brothers Big Sisters’ largest fundraising event of the year.

Angela and Jim Thompson have accepted the role of Honorary Chairs for this year’s Big Black Tie Ball. Jim Thompson is the founding Director of ORIX Foundation. As President and CEO of ORIX USA Corporation, Mr. Thompson established a corporate giving program within ORIX USA in 2006 to encourage employee giving and address community needs. He and his wife also founded the James and Angela Thompson Foundation, which supports underprivileged families and children.

In addition to Jewel’s 55-minute acoustic set, a cocktail reception and three-course dinner, guests at this year’s Gala will have the opportunity to view and purchase some one-of-a-kind treasures. Silent and live auction items will include a stay at a private luxury resort in Bali for eight guests, a custom-made “Wisteria” Neck Collar by Valerie Ostenak, and use of an executive suite at Cowboys Stadium to witness the Top NFL Rivalry of All Time – Cowboys vs. Redskins – on Thanksgiving Day! The live auction’s featured item is a sculpture made by several children that participate in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. The masterpiece was created under the supervision of this year’s Featured Artist Lezlee Liljenberg.

The funds raised will directly benefit the more than 4,000 children currently waiting for a Big Brother or a Big Sister. Each $500 raised will remove one child from our waiting list and match them to a mentor who will provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported 1-to-1 relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.

This event is open to the public and sponsorship opportunities are available. Individual tickets are $350 and couples tickets are $500. A limited number of Jewel VIP meet & greet tickets are still available. Please visit bbbstx.org/bigblacktieball or contact 888.887.BIGS to purchase tickets or for more event information. Sponsors of the 2012 Big Black Tie Ball include ORIX Foundation, The T. Boone Pickens Foundation, UPS, CBS 11, TXA 21, Rent-A-Center, Frito-Lay, FASTSIGNS, Stephanie & Hunter Hunt, Coca-Cola, Stacey & Billy Quinn and Anne & Rob Raymond in addition to our many Bronze and Silver sponsors.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is a donor-supported youth mentoring organization that places caring adults in the lives of children in one-to-one mentoring relationships. Through the positive impact of those friendships, children with a Big Brother or Big Sister are more likely to graduate from high school and less likely to begin using drugs, begin using alcohol or engage in negative behavior.
