Boxing Champ Returns Home in Advance of Pro Fights

Promoter and former world champion boxer Syd “The Jewel” comes to Cambridge, Ontario

CAMBRIDGE, ONTARIO, 16 OCTOBER 2012– Coming this Thursday, October 18 2012, world-recognized champion boxer Syd “The Jewel” Vanderpool a Preston Panther Alumni returns to his home turf for a promotional stop at a local Cambridge eatery. Fans can stop by The Beaver and Bulldog and meet The Jewel, as the Boxing by Syd Vanderpool crew gets ready to bring pro boxing back to the region.

“I’m thrilled to get out there and meet folks who are excited about the calibre of fighters we have in this area,” says Vanderpool, who was once number one world-ranked super middleweight fighter himself. “We’ve got quite the crop of talent here [in Waterloo Region] and now’s the time to show the world what they can do.”

The athletes’ October 18 stop at The Beaver and Bulldog, at 525 Hespeler Rd. in Cambridge, is part of their promotional tour for the upcoming November 3 “Return of the Gladiators” bouts hitting the ring at Marshall Hall in Kitchener. The occasion marks the first time in almost 25 years that professional boxing matches have been hosted in the region. “It’s time to reignite KW’s passion for boxing,” adds VanderpooI, “And I know ‘Return of the Gladiators’ will do just that.”

Fans and friends are invited to meet the “Return of the Gladiators” fighters between 7pm and 9pm on October 18. Models interested in competing for the title of Boxing by Syd Vanderpool Ring Card Model of the Year can also come out to the promo stop and sign up for the contest. The winner of the modelling competition will be announced at the November boxing event, winning a pair of diamond earrings valued at $600, provided by Robins Goldsmithing. “Return of the Gladiators” is presented by Boxing by Syd Vanderpool and local sponsors Diversco, Active Towing, Kissner Milling and Regional Safety.
