Shadow Election is a platform for evaluating candidates and supporting them in social media. The application offers ratable video content about candidates´ views on political issues side by side. The service also shows the average ratings made by the public and Facebook friends.
Shadow Election´s Facebook integration allows effective promotion of candidates by casting social votes and sharing them in social networks. So far most active campaigning have been received by the third party candidates. As in October 16. the Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson has 73,9% and the Green party candidate Jill Stein 18,9% of the total votes. On the other end Obama has only 4,1% and Romney 3,1% of the total votes in Shadow Election USA.
The strong support of third party candidates indicates a growing wish for alternatives to have more visibility in the presidential debates. Shadow Election does not aim to be a scientific poll but instead a service for engaging people with the elections. The supporters of each candidate and friend of democracy are invited to generate social media influence in the presidential election of the United States 2012 by rating and voting at www.shadowelection.com.
