Who is Bradlee Dean? “Hate speech” monger, or modern-day prophet?

Oct. 15, 2012 - PRLog -- A controversial heavy-metal drummer who performs before teens has made headlines in Fox News, The New York Times, MSNBC, and Yahoo News. But a hundred different stories seem to surround this controversial figure. Who is Bradee Dean? The ACLU has labeled Dean as being a radical and provocative speaker, while others have accused him of “hate speech.”

His message? The restoration of the Bible and the Constitution as the foundation of our country. A husband and father of five, Dean preaches a return to the ideals of our founding fathers, and speaks the unpopular truth about the liberal media and our country’s godless government.

Dunkerton High School controversy

Why the bad press? Dean’s work promotes authentic American and Christian values, and holds strong moral convictions against abortion and homosexual behavior. To a liberal media, which provides rampant support for these issues, it is no wonder Dean is a threat. The Blaze recently carried an article about the now-famous Dunkerton High School event in an article, “Preacher Responds to ‘Anti-Gay’ Allegations and Media Scrutiny Following Iowa School Assembly.”

Yet Dean and his band continue to visit colleges and high schools with his mission to free today’s youth from the lies of the mainstream media, while spreading the Christian message. Despite smear attempts, Dean continues to receive overwhelmingly positive feedback from the students and staff who engage in his message.

One Minnesota principal applauded Dean’s program as being “well done, honest, energetic, and straightforward,” while another wrote,

“The students learned about a variety of critical life issues including friendships, family, abstinence, suicide, rumors, and life problems. You touched each of our students' lives in different ways, in ways that the survey results can never measure!”

Apathy: the greatest lack of love
Dean is passionate and unapologetic about speaking the truth. However his agenda is not one of hate, but rather of love, especially on “sensitive” issues such as homosexual behavior, premarital sex, and abortion. If apathy is a lack of love for one’s neighbor, speaking the truth – even when it is not wanted – must be considered an act of love. As another principal pointed out, “If you want a program that is straightforward and reaches teens where they are at, then this is the program for you, but be warned, some people are not ready to hear an opinion that is different from the mainstream culture.”

Our generation is one that relies heavily on the media for influence in our decision-making. It is time to break that cycle, and You Can Run International’s ministry to the young truly promotes a desire to find the truth. The negative attention Dean has received has undoubtedly smeared his image in the minds of many. However, as Matthew 5:11 reads, “Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven.” Dean’s mission to save the souls of the young has not been deterred by this persecution.
