Many adults enjoy watching the sport and would love to learn how to figure skate but feel they are too old or don’t know how to get started. Others may have skated when they were young and would love to return to the sport, but are not sure how to begin.
To address this need, Lori Robertson, a 51 year-old figure skater, figure skating coach in training, occupational therapist and mom to two teenagers has written an eBook for beginner adult figure skaters. Publication is scheduled for October 23, 2012.
Figure Skating?????.....At Your Age???? An Introduction and Encouragement for the Hesitant Figure Skater of a "Certain" Age”© is a mix of helpful information, as well as Robertson’s personal experiences as an adult figure skater.
Robertson says, “I liked the idea of writing an information guide on adult figure skating, but at first I wasn’t sure what to write about. Figure skating, as with any physical activity, is not really conducive to online coaching; we would have to be in the same place at the same time.
When I researched books on figure skating, I found many beautifully illustrated books about champion skaters, as well as books that provided an overview of the sport for the general public. What I did not find was a book devoted to aspiring adult figure skaters or former skaters who were thinking of returning to the ice. In this book I want to encourage those who are genuinely interested in figure skating to not be put off by misconceptions, unwelcoming clubs, etc., but to get out there and not miss out on a wonderful experience of skating."
