Business Litigator and Appellate Lawyer Ruth M. Moore Joins Weingarten Brown LLP

Former Beatty & Wozniak Lawyer Brings Extensive Energy Industry Experience

Oct. 15, 2012 - PRLog -- Weingarten Brown LLP announced today that business litigator and appellate lawyer Ruth M. Moore has joined the Los Angeles-based business and entertainment litigation firm as Of Counsel.  Moore’s experience includes litigation and appeals of complex business litigation matters, including intellectual property, entertainment, contract, consumer fraud, class action, environmental damage, products liability, lien law, and constitutional and preemption cases.  She has practiced before the 9th and 10th U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeals, federal district courts, state courts at all levels in California and Colorado, and successfully opposed certiorari in the U.S. Supreme Court.

“Ruth and I practiced together a number of years ago, so it is a pleasure to welcome her back,” said managing partner Alex Weingarten.  “She is one of the smartest people I have ever had the honor of working with.  Her writing and analytical skills are second to none and we are thrilled to have her as part of our team.  In a short span, we have added securities, antitrust and now energy industry expertise to our core business and entertainment litigation practice.”

Before joining Weingarten Brown, Moore was a lawyer at Beatty & Wozniak, P.C., the premier energy and natural resources firm of the Rockies, where she represented major oil and gas clients, including litigating and negotiating resolutions of vendor, contractor, and customer disputes; challenging Oil and Gas Conservation Commission regulations under the Administrative Procedure Act; and obtaining judgments invalidating municipal oil and gas assessments. She was part of a team that obtained a $26 million judgment in favor of a natural gas utility company for breach of a gas-gathering agreement. Moore also submitted amicus briefs on behalf of a trade organization in cases of significance to the oil and gas industry.

Prior to Beatty & Wozniak, Moore was an associate at Spillane Shaeffer Aronoff Bandlow LLP (now Lathrop & Gage), where she participated in a 9th Circuit victory invalidating Internet third-party liability for unfair competition, false advertising and rights of publicity claims.  She began her career at O’ Melveny & Myers LLP, where she was lead associate in the successful bench trial of a TV licensing dispute and was a member of The American Lawyer’s 2004 “Litigation Department of the Year.” She externed for U.S. Magistrate Judge Theodore Katz in the Southern District of New York.

Moore earned her Juris Doctor in 2001 from Columbia University School of Law, where she was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and served as an Articles Review Editor of the Columbia Business Law Review. She graduated with honors in 1998 from Brown University.
