THAI’s A380-800 aircraft has been royally bestowed the name “Sri Rattana” and operates under the aircraft registration HS-TUA.
Its maiden flight took place 28 September 2012 at 1600 hours from Toulouse, France to Bangkok under the special flight number TG8936. The cockpit crew was led by Captain Thospol Bhurivatana, Captain Chawan Ratanawaraha and Captain Xavier Lesceu as first pilots, along with First Officer Komprom Saengaram and First Officer Wirush Teparuck.
Three A380-800 aircraft will join the THAI fleet by December 2012, operating routes from Bangkok to Hong Kong, Bangkok to Singapore and Bangkok to Frankfurt. In January 2014 THAI will begin operating the Airbus A380-800 to and from Bangkok-Narita and Bangkok-Paris in February 2013.
The delivery of the A380 compliments Thai’s strategy of offering modern and state of the art products and services at every customer touch point while maintaining competitive advantage as one of the world’s premier carriers.
The aircraft accommodates 507 passengers in a three-class configuration with 12 seats in Royal First Class, 60 in Royal Silk and 435 in Economy Class.
Royal First Class seats recline 180 degrees with 83 inch pitch and 26.5 inch seat with the latest Audio Visual on Demand eX2 system, a 23 inch personal entertainment screen offering 100 movies, 150 television programmes, 500 CD albums and 60 games. In addition to internet connection, Wi-Fi, on board mobile phone use and electronic plug-in features, it also offers a Royal First Class Bar, spacious lavatory and dressing room and a multi functional onboard lounge.
Royal Silk Class features 60 seats with 180 degrees recline, 74 inch pitch and 20 inch seat width. The 15 inch personal entertainment screen also features the AVOD eX2 system, offering the same audio video selections as Royal First Class, plus a Royal Silk Bar.
Economy Class boasts 58 seats in the upper deck and 377 seats in the lower deck with 32 inch pitch, 18 inch seat width and 10.6 inch personal entertainment screen offering the same entertainment options as Royal Silk and Royal First Class.
THAI chose the A380-800 for its environmentally conscious features such as noise-control operations in accordance with international airport regulations, its ability to transport 40% more passengers than other large wide-body aircraft thereby reducing carbon dioxide and noise per passenger.
