Miles to Manali – An Adventure Bike Trip

Doesn’t your heart throb with the growling engine? We know it does. And so, just in time, The Other Home is organizing an exclusive bike trip to Manali, the queen of hills!
 
Oct. 15, 2012 - PRLog -- “Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of a bike ride”, says John F. Kennedy. Quite true! After all, isn’t it amazing to feel the wind blowing in your face?  Don’t you feel your pulse dancing to the rhythm of the whirlpool created by the motion of the wheels? Doesn’t your heart throb with the growling engine? We know it does. And so, just in time, The Other Home is organizing an exclusive bike trip to Manali, the queen of hills!
The journey will start from Delhi and bikers return to Delhi after a period of six days. The first batch leaves on the 20th of this month and returns on the 25th; the second batch will drive from 26th to 31st October.
Overall Route Map: Delhi- Nahan- Shimla- Manali- Chandigarh- Delhi.
Day I: Delhi-Nahan
Route: Sonipath- Panipath- Karnal- Jagadri- Pontasahib- Nahan | Distance: 255 Kms | Travel Time: 5:30 hrs
After a formal meeting with the Other Home Team early in the morning and a general discussion about the trip, you kick your bike towards Nahan. Our core site During the day, one can explore innumerable sites in and around the place: Renuka Lake, Fossil Park, Haripur Dhar, Ponta Sahib, Badholia Temple Waterfall, The Jalal River team member will lead the tour. After reaching Nahan, check in at Nestling Meadows, a beautiful camping Bed, Renuka Zoo, to name a few. Dinner and overnight stay will be arranged at the camp.
Day II: Nahan-Shimla
Route: Solan- Kandaghat- Shimla | Distance: 140 Kms | Travel Time: 2:30 hrs
After a wholesome breakfast, hit the rugged village roads of Panjhal leading to Solan via the SH2 Highway. On your way, enjoy the spectacular scenery and drive to Shimla via Kandaghat. At Shimla, you will check in at Kufri Holiday Resort for overnight stay and dinner. While at Shimla, indulge yourself in sightseeing at  Jakhoo Hill, Chail Wildlife Sanctuary and Himalayan Nature Park at Kufri.  At the central square, visit the Scandal Point, Christ Church, Kali Bari, Town Hall and carry back souvenirs from the Lakkar Bazaar and the Mall.
Day III-IV: Shimla-Manali
Route: Bilaspur- Mandi- Kullu- Manali | Distance:252 Kms | Travel Time:6 hrs
The place to check in at Manali would be Sai Kirpa Nest Day. Surrounded by towering peaks, Manali is very near to the snowline. The road leading to this picturesque city is lined with lush apple orchards. It is not only popular as a honeymoon destination but also for adventure sports such as skiing, hiking, mountaineering, paragliding, kayaking, rafting and mountain biking. Besides, the temples of Manali are treated as pilgrimage because the place, as the name suggests, is believed to be the home of Manu, a well-known sage from the Hindu mythology. Some of the temples and monasteries worth visiting are: Hadimba Temple, Manu Temple, Gompas Monasteries. Also check out Solang Valley, Rohtang Pass, hot-springs at Vashisht and the hippy enclave of old Manali.
Day V-VI: Manali-Chandigarh-Delhi
Distance: 292.8 Kms (Manali- Chandigarh);  257 Kms (Chandigarh- Delhi) | Travel Time:5 hrs (Manali- Chandigarh); 4 hrs (Chandigarh- Delhi).
From Manali, advance your bike journey to the last stop on the route, Chandigarh. Check in at the Siwan Lodge for overnight stay. During the day, visit the mesmerizing theme gardens of the city: The Rock Garden being one of them. Also, do have a look at the exquisite designing of Capitol Complex and the Open Hand Monument. In the evening, relax at the Leisure valley. Next day, after breakfast in the lodge, you close the journey by driving back to Delhi. On the way, Deluxe Camp at Nahan will provide the accommodation facilities.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):
1) How much will the trip costme? With bike, the total cost per person, on twin sharing basis, would be 17,500/- for 5Nights/6 Days. Without bike, the same would be 12,000/- This includes the fuel cost, accommodation cost, expenses of personal nature such as laundry, telephone service, food, beverages and medical expenses. One back up van will be provided for use in case of emergency. Any expenses incurred due to delays or unforeseen circumstances or any service provided that is not mentioned in the inclusion will be directly payable as extra. Camera fee at entrances to places of visit and Inner line Permit is not included.
2) When do I make the payment? A minimum of 50% of the total amount to be paid with confirmation. No charge for cancelling two months before the departure, -25% of total for cancelling 29-60 days before departure, -50% of total for cancelling 10-28 days before departure. Payment is non-refundable in case of cancellation in the period of ten days before departure.
3) What are the things that I need to carry? The essentials would include: T-shirts(preferably dry-fits), extra batteries, Track lowers, Sunscreen (minimum 50 spf), Thermal Inners (upper and lower), sunglasses, Rain-suit, Down-jacket, Sweatshirt, personal medication, if any, Shorts, Backpack- one large and a Day pack, Boots(avoid brand new!), Toiletries, Gloves, Socks (cotton and woollen), Towel, Some Identification, Flashlights (preferably head torch).
4) Any precautions? To enjoy the trip to the fullest, there are certain things the biker must keep in mind: 1) don’t rush on the first day in the mountains. Acclimatize yourself to the gaining height by taking a break at the lodge or go sight-seeing. Otherwise, you might end up with a severe headache. 2) Carry the necessary documents: registration form and insurance papers of your vehicle, in case you are taking your own bike and PUC certificate. Ensure that the bike is well-serviced. Carry extra fuel.3) It’s better to travel with a pillion, especially if he/she knows how to ride. 4) Be updated with news regarding landslides. 5)If camping, beware of leeches! Carry salt- bottles for extra safety.6) Try to start journeys early in the morning to avoid tourist traffic jams. As it is, there is not much buffer time for delays.
