3RD WORLD: A Cyberpunk Tale Rises From The Ashes

Out of the Ashes, Rises the Phoenix - Original Team Reunites to Bring Game to Life

Oct. 14, 2012 - PRLog -- Fifteen years ago, a team of talented video game developers were brought together to work on a new CyberPunk video game. Two years of their lives and countless hours of work was invested by the team and just at the brink of release, it was pulled out from under them and shelved due to corporate intervention. The team was crushed. This was their baby and now it wasn't going to see the light of day. After this blow, the team went their separate ways while still pursuing a career in the video game realm. They have now reunited with 15 years of experience under their belts. Having worked on games like Mafia Wars, Warcraft II and Call of Duty to name a few, we know we've got a solid team and we're ready to go.

The game itself was ahead of it's time fifteen years ago. Not to sound totally bias but when comparing it to other modern-day games, they did it first. They also see what an influence it made on the developers who worked on it and it reflects in their work on other games. The members of the team themselves say it was the best project they'd ever worked; the best team they'd ever worked with. It was magical. A true collaboration of different talents bringing something to life. Much like a rock band that can command a crowd and mesmerize them with their music - they did it together! This is what it's all about.

Today, with the core assets of the game in hand, the team has reunited to give it life once more. Like a team of doctors, each aspect of the game is being revamped and prepped for the latest release on the i-Phone apps platform. This time, though, the team is doing it on their own - no corporate overlords to stop them. They made a pact to each other: "We will do this ourselves. This game will make the market!"

Much like the story line of the game in 3rd World: A CyberPunk Tale, they're rebels against the corporations and their little "corporate games". In this latest recession we are all experiencing, a few of our designers have been laid off from their jobs. We know what it's like. We've all been there. It's nothing personal, it's business - right? Tell that to our families - our children. We're not just another body filling a chair and punching the clock. We actually love what we do and do what we love.

But we must be realistic. We have many people depending on us and the games' success. We clamored to find ways to get funding to help each other out. We even considered a partnership with some pretty top-notch investors but none of the offers were quite right. They all wanted the bigger piece of the pie than we were willing to give. They wanted us to sell out. More corporate bullshit that went against what the team had promised one another: "We will do this ourselves. This game will make the market!"

We found out about Kickstarter and figured we'd try to help subsidize some of our team to alleviate some of their financial worries and of course, to get the game out faster. We still hear from corporate investors from time to time, wanting to "help" us out with our project. We, of course, have turned them down. We know we've got something good on our hands. They know it, too, because they don't stop calling. If only they could see past their greed.

Like in 3rd World, a modern-day "Sec-Net" is breathing down our necks threatening to cut off our power supply and communication network if we don’t comply. On the positive end, Ron Millar has contacted us on Kickstarter with regards to 3rd World and has even backed our project. The game was being developed under his management at the time at a little company called Redline Games. He also worked at Blizzard and is currently with Lucas Arts. You can read more about Ron on his Wikipedia page. (Yeah, he's that big!)

We are off to a great start on Kickstarter and have found that there are some great Angels out there who have backed our project. Our financial goal is minimal because it's not all about the money. We just want to get the game out. We want to help one another and we definitely will thank our backers. We truly appreciate your belief in us and in this project.

I have been privy to some of the updates and new features currently being worked on to get 3rd World ready for it's unveiling. It's pretty amazing and bad-ass, if I do say so myself. I've seen and heard these guys in meetings for hours discussing the project, the assets, the sound effects, the player features, the weapons - you name it. I can't wait to be able to share it with you. A snipet of the game can be found on our Kickstarter page. We update it whenever we hit a milestone on our development timeline. All I can say at this point is, "Get ready, it's coming...and It's Alive!"
